Soil, slabs and movement in Point Cook VIC
Point Cook is not one kind of ground. Geological mapping shows it as roughly two thirds Newer Volcanics basalt, about a quarter swamp deposits, and a small band of coastal dune sand along the shoreline. Those three behave differently: basalt weathers to reactive clay that shrinks and swells, swamp deposits are soft and compressible, and dune sand is neither. That is why there is no defensible suburb-wide statement about Point Cook ground, and why the soil report for your particular lot carries more weight here than in a uniform basalt corridor.
